Ashdown Singers concert: Music of the Gods at Holy Cross Church in Uckfield
On Wednesday 29th April at 8pm, take a break from the world’s gloomy news stories to come and listen to some heavenly music performed by this Uckfield-based chamber choir.
We will take you on a journey from a hymn to the sun to a song in praise of Neptune, and from Thor hitting his anvil to a plea for peace to the Christian god. We will also treat you to Act III of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, including the heart-rending Dido’s Lament.
As always, there is space in our programme for at least one female composer – in this case the fascinating Lili Boulanger, who was the first woman to win the highly prestigious Grand Prix de Rome for composition in 1813, when she was just 19 years old.
Tickets cost £15, to include a drink at arrival, or £12 if bought online up until one week before the concert date – just go to https://www.ashdownsingers.org.uk/concert-diary and click on the link.
Proceeds of the concert will be donated to the Holy Cross organ fund.
