Haydn: Piano trio in E Major, HobXV :28 Kelly-Marie Murphy: Give Me Phoenix Wings to Fly Beethoven: Archduke trio, op97 The Astatine trio has emerged as one of the UK’s most exciting young ensembles, most recently being named BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists for 2025-27. From 2022- 2025 they were mentored by legendary pianist Alfred Brendel at his personal invitation and have won a host of awards including first prizes at the Birmingham International Piano Chamber Music Competition, at the Lucca Virtuoso & Belcanto International Festival and the special prize for 2025 Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition in Graz.
As well as the well known works by Beethoven and Haydn, the conert features an exciting recent work by Kelly Marie Murphy. The unusual title? Kelly-Marie wrote to us: "I’ve always been intrigued by the myth of the Phoenix – a bird that immolates in fire and then rises up again from its own ashes. It is such a powerful image, and one which is relevant to contemporary life, as we find ourselves balanced somewhat precariously on the brink of disaster." Come and hear how she translates these ideas into a musical form!
