Viols & Voice: an evening of storytelling & song from the 16th Century to modern day, raising funds for a teenager homeschool group’s educational adventure
More Information (Ashdown Radio is not responsible for external websites)
Join us for an evening of storytelling and song from the 16th Century to the modern day. This programme of baroque, folk, contemporary, and original music arranged for viols and voice will draw you in for an interactive and explorative musical experience.
7pm C.C. Church, Hartfield Rd, Forest Row
Intesa is an Italian word meaning 'understanding' or 'agreement', and when used in a social context it has the connotation of a 'meeting of minds'.
The evening will be held in an atmospheric Church in Forest Row, hosted by, and for a fundraising group, raising funds for their educational tall-ship sailing adventure from Cornwall to Scotland! In keeping with this Intesa will be including a few songs from the British Isles.
Intesa was formed at the Royal Academy of Music by Lucine Musaelian and Nathan Giorgetti. Brought together by our shared passion for the sound of the viol, its combination with the voice, the overlap between folk and baroque music, and the performance of new music on viols, our programmes are centred around the art of self-accompaniment across different genres. Our goal as an ensemble is to tell stories in our performances by cultivating what we know about Historical Performance practice in a contemporary context.
Since our recent founding, we have had the pleasure of being coached by Jonathan Manson, Margaret Faultless, Laurence Cummings, Peter Whelan, Liz Kenny, Jacob Heringman, and Sam Stadlen. Recent performance highlights include our debut concert at Handel Hendrix House, a recital at Fidelio Cafe, and a recording day at the Voces8 Foundation sponsored by the Royal Academy of Music.
Recently, we were awarded the Royal Academy Chamber Fellowship for 2023-2024 and recorded our first EP, due to be released later this year.
Doors open at 7pm.
Wheelchair accessible. Please contact us with any seating/access requirements.
