The Cinnamon Trust Launches National Big Walk Celebrating the Bond Between Owners and Their Pets

On the 6th of May, The Cinnamon Trust will be holding The Big Walk. This nationwide event will see existing volunteers, their dog ambassadors, and supporters across the country coming out in force to join their local walk and champion the Trust's unwavering mission. Each established walk will be led by the charity’s registered volunteers who actively support the Trust in facilitating the full benefits of pet ownership by doing everything possible to keep owners and their pets together for as long as possible.

Helping over 155,000 people and 156,000 animals each year, The Cinnamon Trust values the special bond between owners and their pets and provides a lifeline for both. By working with a dedicated network of more than 20,000 volunteers, The Trust assists owners when any aspect of the day-to-day care of their pets poses a problem, in turn saving a great deal of sorrow and pain.

Patrick Williams, The Cinnamon Trust’s Chief Executive, shares his excitement about The Big Walk stating: "This event is more than just going out for a stroll! It reflects the essence of our work, which is kindness and community woven together. It stands as a testament to our unwavering belief in the incredible power found within our communities, and we are deeply honoured to once again have the generosity of our community!”

The upcoming Big Walk marks The Trust's second annual event following the success of last year's walk, which was organised in celebration of King Charles III Coronation. The Trust had over 30 walks across the country attended by hundreds of people and dogs.

The upcoming Big Walk marks The Trust's second annual event following the success of last year's walk, which was organised in celebration of King Charles III Coronation. During last year’s walk over 730 people and 300 dogs joined across the country to support the initiative.

This year’s Big Walk is also supported by animal enthusiasts such as Brian Blessed, whose stirring call beckons others to join: “In this dark age, it’s so important to do such wonderful things, for the terminally ill and older people, and for all kinds of people! My lovely 15-year-old rescue Roxy and I will be doing the walk. It will be a great, great day. I look forward to seeing you!”

Those eager to join one of the scheduled walks can explore the confirmed locations on The Trust's website. For those without online access but wanting to take part, please get in touch with The Big Walk team at 01736 758 701.

NOTES TO EDITOR:

The Cinnamon Trust is the only specialist national charity dedicated to alleviating the challenges faced by older people and the terminally ill in caring for their pets. Founded in 1985 by Mrs Averil Jarvis MBE, the organisation honours the special bond between people and their pets and, for nearly four decades, has done everything possible to make sure this bond is not broken because someone is unable to care for their pet on their own.

Relying on the generosity of 20,000 dedicated volunteers, The Trust helps pet owners by offering hands-on assistance when any aspect of the day-to-day care of their pets poses a problem, such as dog walking, transporting pets to the vet and much more.

The Trust also gives owners the peace of mind they need to benefit from the relationship by the provision of lifelong care for pets who outlive them. By Pet Profiling their pets with The Trust, they entrust the charity to make thoughtful decisions about their pet’s wellbeing for when the owner has to either move into permanent care or sadly passes away.

This care is given in two purpose-built home-from-home sanctuaries and foster homes, never relying on kennels or cages, upholding the promise of always being compassionate and offering the highest standards of care. The Trust oversees all animals in long-term foster homes and pays all veterinary bills; and where particular diets are necessary, The Cinnamon Trust also pays for the food.

The Trust does not charge for its services and relies on the generosity of its registered members, contributors and community to sustain the work it does. Patrons of the charity include Sir Paul McCartney CH MBE and Dame Virginia McKenna.
