£50,000 fundraising goal set for 'significant' Arlington Stadium repairs

A £50,000 GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign has been launched to finance critical health and safety infrastructure repairs at Arlington Stadium in East Sussex.

The historic stock car racing venue was abruptly shut down in August 2026 after its insurers refused to cover future events due to extreme infrastructure risks. Joint-owner Eric Dugard initially announced that racing would permanently end after 60 years of operation. However, a subsequent agreement with promotional body Spedeworth Motorsports established a path to save the venue, contingent on completing substantial refurbishments. 

Scope of Repairs

The total repair bill will vastly exceed the initial fundraising baseline, but the immediate £50,000 target aims to kickstart the venue's return to safety compliance. Key projects include: 

• Replacing the debris fence: Installing a fully compliant 600-metre wire mesh safety fence around the oval track to meet mandatory insurance terms.
• Structural updates: Repairing the home-straight grandstand and the back-straight spectator seating.
• Utilities & lighting: Erecting completely new floodlighting poles and overhauling the public toilet facilities. 

The campaign organizer, Nick Hughes, noted that while the initial goal is capped at £50,000, a significantly larger total investment will ultimately be required to restore the stadium to standard. The stadium owners had already self-funded over £250,000 in car park and electrical upgrades prior to the safety closure.
