A review of the weekends action
Big news coming out of Sussex Cricket on Sunday, with confirmation that Jon Filby has resigned as chairman, having been in the role since April 2022, with the announcement following the recent news that has seen Sussex placed under financial control and deducted points for the upcoming season by the ECB.
In football, Eastbourne Borough’s match away to Chesham was one of a number of games called off this weekend due to the weather, while Tommy Widdringtons side are back in action tomorrow evening at home to Maidstone.
Elsewhere, Lewes had a day to forget as they suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to league leading Folkestone Invicta, while all other games on Saturday were curtailed following another weekend of heavy rain.
Thankfully there was some more football in the women’s game on Sunday, with Lewes rewarded with a dominant 6-0 victory over Cheltenham Town, with a strong first half that saw The Rooks four goals up at the break.
Lastly for women’s football, Eastbourne Borough are through to the semi finals of the London & South East Regional League Trophy, beating AFC Greenwich Borough 2-1, with two goals from Izzy Payne, in managers Chris Day’s 50th game at the helm.
Finally in women’s rugby, Heathfield & Waldron secured a 27-14 victory against Dartford Valley, while the win sees the side climb up into fourth place with five leagues matches still to play.
