Eastbourne Borough Council is inviting residents to take part in local events to mark the global campaign, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
This year, the focus is on tackling digital violence against women and girls, one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse. The 16 Days run from Monday, November 25, (the UN International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women) to Tuesday, December 10 (Human Rights Day).
The council is working with local community groups, charities, and Sussex Police to raise awareness of the devastating impact of violence against women and girls and highlight the vital support services available across the area.
Councillor Teri Sayers-Cooper, Women and Girls Champion at Eastbourne Borough Council, said: "Tackling violence against women and girls is a top priority for us, and this year's focus on digital abuse is a critical part of that work.
"Violence is often hidden, but the statistics remind us that we cannot be silent: on average, a woman is killed every three days in the UK by a partner or ex-partner.
"Our events in Eastbourne are not just symbolic, they are a call to action. We urge all residents to stand with us, educate themselves, and become active allies in ending violence against women and girls in our community and online."
A series of initiatives will take place in Eastbourne in the lead up to and during the 16 Days, including:
Saturday, November 22
