It's over removal of items from plots in the Garden of Remembrance.
Cremation Plot Owners in Herne Cemetery Crowborough have entered dispute with the Town Council
They were notifed by letter last week that the Town Council have decided all of the plots must have everything removed. Plots often have personal momentos, flowers and things like photos and some have small model Animals on as well.
The Council have told owners that there are maintenance issues relating to cutting of the grass between plots and the hedgerow in the Garden of Remembrance.
The residents group have challenged the Council they say, and have not had a reasonable response, so a meeting of all of the owners was hastily arranged.
Garry Clark Group Leader Said to us: "It was decided at the owners meeting that we could take over all of the maintenance of the pots between us, however that has been declined by the Town Council on health and safety grounds, likewise a request to put back the date of clearance until September when the next neeting was being held so residents could air their views has been declined as well"
Crowborough Town Council were asked for comment by Ashdown Radio and said: Crowborough Town Council understands that the decision to ask relatives to remove items from the hedgerow Garden of Remembrance is distressing. Unfortunately maintenance of the area has become increasingly difficult and the council can no longer look after the area in the way it would like. The committee did not make the decision lightly, but in doing so, hope to ensure that all graves in the hedgerow Garden of Remembrance will benefit from the maintenance they deserve.
