Crowborough Town Council has formally written to Royal Mail demanding urgent answers and a clear timeline regarding persistent postal service disruptions.
Local residents and businesses have reported severe delivery delays, leaving many struggling to receive critical communications like medical appointments, legal documents, and financial payments on time.
Key Demands from the Council
Led by Councillor Matthew Street, Chairperson of the Communication and Events Committee, the council is formally seeking:
- An explanation of the exact operational issues causing the local delivery failures.
- Specific details regarding the remediation measures Royal Mail is deploying.
- A predictable timeline indicating when a reliable, six-day-a-week service will resume.
- Information on resource adjustments, such as operational changes or temporary staffing boosts, aimed at clearing the local backlog.
In addition to demanding written clarification, the town council has invited Royal Mail management representatives to attend an upcoming council meeting to face questions directly. While the council emphasized its appreciation for the hard work of local front-line posties, it noted that systemic unreliability has left residents feeling increasingly isolated from essential services.
This local pushback comes amidst broader scrutiny for the courier; the postal regulator Ofcom recently launched a formal investigation into Royal Mail's widespread failure to meet its national first- and second-class delivery targets.
