Delight as lease on Uckfield banking hub completed

The lease for a permanent banking hub in Uckfield has officially been completed

The new, permanent shared facility will move into the former Santander Bank building at 15 High Street, signaling an end to the town's struggle with sequential high street bank closures.

Key Details & Timeline

  • Location: Former Santander building, 15 High Street, Uckfield, TN22 1AG.
  • Next Steps: Construction and internal fit-out works are starting immediately.
  • Expected Opening: The fit-out process typically takes 2 to 3 months, meaning a launch is expected in autumn 2026.
  • Current Status: Customers can continue using the temporary hub at Wealden Volunteering (79 High Street) until the permanent home opens.

Local Impact & Reaction

Local MP Mims Davies expressed thrill over the progress, noting how much the community and nearby areas rely on face-to-face services.

Business owners, including Chris Lawson of local firm Lawson Commercial, highlighted that the continuous closure of local bank branches heavily disadvantaged Uckfield. Previously, staff and customers had to travel to Tunbridge Wells or Eastbourne for in-person banking, which inadvertently pulled retail traffic away from local high street shops

How the Permanent Banking Hub Will Work

The hub is funded by Cash Access UK and operated by the Post Office. Once open, it will operate Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
