Eastbourne grandmother wins £1.1 million in National Lottery

An anonymous retiree in her 70s from Eastbourne won £1,126,231 in the National Lottery after matching five main numbers and the bonus ball in the Lotto "Must Be Won" draw on 25 April

The grandmother discovered she was a millionaire entirely by accident when she called the National Lottery Line simply to update her bank card details. During the call, the customer service agent noticed the massive unclaimed prize sitting on her account and broke the life-changing news to her.

Key Details of the Win

  • The Prize Details: She won a base amount plus an extra £26,000 due to the "Must Be Won" rollover rules, alongside an additional £54 and a free Lucky Dip ticket on the same draw.
  • The Strategy: The winner used a set of numbers chosen for their "personal significance" which she always plays.
  • Future Plans: She intends to use the money to purchase her own home.

Reports quote Kathy Garrett, a Senior Winners' Advisor at National Lottery operator Allwyn, who expressed excitement over the "totally unexpected" and fantastic way the winner found out about her windfall.
