Eastbourne man 'arrested in connection with terrorism offence'

A 35-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested today (Friday, 6 March 2026), on suspicion of a terrorism offence

  • Offence: The man was detained on suspicion of expressing an opinion in support of a proscribed organisation (Daesh/Islamic State), which is an offence under section 12 (1A) of the Terrorism Act 2000.
  • Investigation: The arrest is part of a pre-planned Islamist terrorism investigation linked to content posted on social media platforms.
  • Operation: The action was led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), with support from Sussex Police.
  • Current Status: As of Friday afternoon, the suspect remains in police custody, and officers are conducting a search of a property in Eastbourne.
