Eastbourne School closed due to suspected arson attack

Emergency services were called to the scene at 10:15 am, prompting a full evacuation of all students and staff.

Fortunately, all individuals were accounted for safely, and no injuries were reported. Due to significant building damage, the special education secondary school will remain closed until at least Monday, 14 September 2026.

• Emergency Dispatch: Three fire engines from the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) units in Eastbourne and Pevensey responded to the location. 
• Fire Suppression: Crews utilized two breathing apparatuses, a hosereel jet, and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear thick smoke from the premises. Firefighters officially left the scene at 12:38 pm. 
• Arson Investigation: Sussex Police have registered the incident as a "suspected deliberate ignition" and are actively investigating the cause of the fire.
