Eastbourne's Splash Pad to remain closed until hosepipe ban lifted

The popular Princes Park Splash Pad in Eastbourne will remain closed indefinitely until the current local hosepipe ban is lifted.

Reason for Closure

Eastbourne Borough Council announced the choice after consulting with South East Water and Southern Water due to severe drought conditions affecting East Sussex. A temporary use ban on water restrictions has left the council unable to run the water play attraction. 

Timeline & Future Plans

• Recent History: The facility had just had a grand reopening on 3 July 2026 following a £25,000 funding campaign spearheaded by Eastbourne MP Josh Babarinde. 
• Mechanical Issues: The splash pad faced multiple closures in July due to a broken water pump valve and other needed repairs. 
• Maintenance Promise: The council plans to use this downtime to finish mechanical and flooring repairs so the pad is immediately ready when restrictions lift. 
• Next Steps: Council Leader Stephen Holt promised the facility will reopen either later this summer or next year. He is calling a multi-agency meeting with local partners to map out long-term, environmentally sustainable maintenance plans
