Knockhatch Adventure Park in Hailsham officially launched its new interactive Capybara Experience in April
Visitors can now get "up close and personal" with the park's three resident female capybaras—Capythrine, Mary, and Dorothy—in their specially designed enclosure within the Jungle Kingdom.
Experience Details
The 30-minute session is led by a zookeeper and focuses on feeding, interacting with, and learning about the social dynamics of these gentle South American rodents.
- Cost: £60 per person, which includes full-day entry to the rest of the park.
- Duration: 30 minutes.
- Availability: Various times throughout the day
- Requirements:
- Participants must be at least 8 years old.
- Children 16 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.
- Dress Code: Long-sleeved tops, long trousers, and fully enclosed shoes are mandatory for safety.
New Enclosure Features
The new exhibit was formally opened by the Mayor of Polegate and is located next to the ring-tailed lemurs. It features:
- Glass walls for "nose-to-nose" viewing for all ages.
- Water areas and a hollow oak tree to reflect the animals' natural semi-aquatic habitat.
- Breeding plans: While the sisters are currently the only residents, the park intends to introduce a male capybara in the future to start a breeding programme
