Hailsham gas mains road closures will last until October

The upcoming Hailsham gas mains replacement project will cause various road closures lasting from Monday, July 27, 2026, until October 31, 2026.

Gas network operator SGN is conducting a major, urgent upgrades project across four distinct phases to replace old metal gas mains. [1, 2, 3]

Roadmap of the 4 Phased Closures

According to Hailsham Town Council and updates published by the Brighton Argus, the disruptions are scheduled to hit the town in the following stages: [1, 2]

• Phase 1: A295 South Road
  • Start Date: Monday, July 27
  • Details: Full closure to through traffic between South Close and Ersham Road for approximately 8 weeks. Once reopened, temporary traffic signals will manage traffic toward No. 38 South Road. [1, 2, 3]
• Phase 2: Diplocks Way
  • Start Date: Monday, August 10
  • Details: Diplocks Way will close completely at the junction with South Road while gas mains are replaced under a "give and take" layout. [1, 2]
• Phase 3: Gordon Road
  • Start Date: Monday, August 24
  • Details: Gordon Road will temporarily close entirely at its junction with South Road. [1]
• Phase 4: B2104 Ersham Road
  • Start Date: Monday, October 12
