Hailsham woman, 70, takes on 24-hour danceathon for charity

Laura Murphy, the 70-year-old founder of the East Sussex women's charity WayfinderWoman, is taking on an extraordinary 24-hour non-stop danceathon to challenge stereotypes about older women and raise vital funds.

  • Description: To celebrate her 70th birthday year, Laura will dance through 24 different musical styles—changing genres every single hour. Despite never taking a formal dance lesson, she will tackle ballroom, Bollywood, salsa, disco, tango, jive, line dancing, and a special Eurovision hits hour. Members of the community are invited to drop in and dance alongside her.
  • Fundraising Goal: The event aims to raise £7,000 to fund trained peer-support services for local women dealing with anxiety, trauma, and cost-of-living challenges.
  • Cost/Tickets: Entry is based on a suggested donation of £5–£10 per hour for participants joining the dance floor, or through raising independent sponsorships.
