A kayaker has died despite attempts to rescue him at sea.
Sussex Police have confirmed that the body of a 53-year-old man from Polegate was recovered off the coast at Hollywell, Eastbourne yesterday (7th August).
RNLI Eastbourne launched two lifeboats just before midnight on August 6, following reports of an "overdue kayaker who had not returned home".
HM Coastguard and other emergency services were also called to the scene.
The kayaker was located in the water by RNLI Eastbourne's all-weather lifeboat, and then recovered by the inshore lifeboat.
RNLI Eastbourne said that "casualty care was administered", before the individual was "transferred to the care of the appropriate authorities".
"Tragically, the outcome was not as hoped", RNLI Eastbourne added. "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the individual during this difficult time."
Police said that there were no suspicious circumstances.
