In 2023, the Liberal Democrat and Green Party councillors formed the Alliance for Wealden, which is a cross-party, co-operative group that governs the council.
As part of their agreement, council leadership alternates annually between the two parties every year.
For the 2026 – 2027 term, Green Party Councillor Rachel Millward has been appointed as leader of the council, with Liberal Democrat Councillor James Partridge as the deputy leader of the council.
Additionally, Liberal Democrat Councillor Gavin Blake-Coggins has been named again as the chair of the council, with Councillor Jessika Hulbert as deputy chair of the council.
