In local football, and a disappointing result for Crowborough Athletic in their title battle, conceding in the 90th minute to lose 2-1 against Haywards Heath dropping them down to third, although with two games in hand on both teams above.
Elsewhere in the Southern Combinations, AFC Uckfield Town faltered to a 4-0 defeat at home against a strong Hassocks side, leaving The Oakmen bottom of the league, while Jarvis Brook in Division 2 earned a 3-1 victory away against Rottingdean Village.
Over in the Mid Sussex Leagues, Rotherfield also conceded in the 90th minute, losing 1-0 away to Westfield, while Ridgewood continued their dominant form by thrashing AFC Uckfield Town 2nd’s 8-0, as Barcombe beat Seaford Town 2nd’s in an entertaining 4-3 clash to progress in the Edgar German Cup.
Meanwhile, Nutley earned their second win of the season in convincing manner, beating Polegate Town 2nd’s 5-0, while Plumpton Athletic narrowly came out on top in their clash with Newick, winning 3-2.
Lastly in the men’s, Maresfield Village beat Scaynes Hill 2nd’s 4-3 away from home, while Hartfield beat Crawley United 2nd’s 2-0 to keep their Division 6 title chase alive.
In women’s football, and a second 90th minute equaliser conceded by Lewes in as many weeks, drawing 2-2 with relegation rivals Reading, as AFC Uckfield Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at home against Newhaven.
Finally in the men’s rugby, Crowborough earned a convincing 49-17 victory against Charlton Park, while Heathfield & Waldron edged past Thanet Wanderers 20-21, as Uckfield fell to a 6-28 defeat against Brighton 2nd’s that leaves them stranded in midtable, with Newick comfortably dispatching Crowborough 2nd’s 40-0.
