Mims recently met with Elliot Colburn from the Samaritans
Around 25% of suicides in the young involved social media or being active online. Every year, organisations and communities come together, specifically on World Suicide Prevention Day, to raise awareness of how we can create a society where fewer people reach the point where they feel suicide is their only option.
With suicide sadly still being the biggest killer of men, causes most likely unfortunately include:
Financial
Relationship breakdown
Isolation
Loneliness
Only 25% of those who took their own lives were known to the NHS, but 90% are known to the other services such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) job centres.
Can you help the Samaritans?
As well as the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping people, you’ll learn valuable new skills with their comprehensive training, make new friendships, and be part of an amazing group of people who do great work. You don’t need to have been through a particular life experience or be an expert in anything particular to volunteer with the team.

We discussed the Samaritans Charity's vision and goals, their policy asks, and what I can do as an MP to further help and support the incredible work they do for so many, every day.
This brilliant charity is also looking for volunteers to join The Samaritans team, so if you have any time available to help and support, please follow the below link as I know it would be hugely appreciated - with training provided:
