Jennifer Rigelsford an employee of Morrisons in Seaford proves by handing a cheque over to Chief Fire Officer and CEO of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service Mark Matthews.
With the help of friends and colleagues from Morrisons, Jennifer ran a fundraising day in memory of her father Mick Rigelsford; a long serving and well known firefighter from Seaford, who sadly passed away in December 2023.
The fundraising day was held on a cold and windy Sunday in May and was supported by current Seaford firefighters and the team at Morrisons, face painters and a charity stall.
On the day over £1000 was raised and has since been matched funded with a generous donation from Morrisons, making a total of £2039.69
CFO Mark Matthews took the opportunity to thank Jennie for the great support and much need funds stating that “her Dad would have been so proud of her” and he also thanked store manager Mell Diffey.
Local fundraiser and supporter - Dick Broady stated that this was a fantastic achievement and was very grateful for the support of Morrisons Seaford. He also added the money raised will be vital in helping more beneficiaries and we’re very grateful to everyone who dug deep into their pockets to support firefighters and their families.
“It costs over £12 million per year to meet the needs of the charity’s beneficiaries, and with no regular government funding; we are reliant on donations and fundraising from the general public and the fire and rescue community.”
