Plans have been approved to transform a former public toilet in Eastbourne’s Old Town into a new venue called Little Mexico, which will house both a Mexican restaurant and an artisan shop.
Key Details of the Project
- The Venue: A collaboration between El Changarro, a Mexican restaurant previously based at the Tally Ho Lounge, and Casa Mex
, an Eastbourne-based retailer of Mexican fashion and decor. - Business Model: The site will function as a "vibrant community hub" featuring a breakfast cafe, lunch and dinner service, and a shop selling handmade Mexican crafts.
- Proposed Look: The approved plans include installing new windows and doors, repainting the exterior pink and white, and adding illuminated signage.
- Operating Hours: The shop is expected to open from 9am to 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday, with takeaway food services available until 9pm.
- Community Impact: Beyond retail and dining, the owners plan to host cultural workshops, exhibitions, and charity collaborations.
The application was submitted by Mexbourne Property Holdings Ltd and received final approval from Eastbourne Borough Council in early February 2026.
