Police have been working closely with partners and local businesses in Uckfield to tackle reports of youth-related anti-social behaviour (ASB).
The Neighbourhood Policing Team have increased dedicated patrols with officers in and around the town centre, to provide visibility and reassurance to local businesses and the wider public. A section 34 Dispersal Order was put in place, giving officers the powers to move individuals away from the area when causing disruption. This has proved successful with the power being used during the carnival to disperse a youth from the town, and the order will be extended into this week with continued dedicated patrols.
The carnival took place successfully on Saturday, alongside wider festivities over the weekend, and we would like to thank the local community and businesses for their ongoing support of our continued efforts to keep the community safe. Local officers were deployed throughout the weekend to engage with the public and prevent anti-social behaviour with officers making four arrests.
Wealden District Commander Mark Evans said: "We know that anti-social behaviour can have a real impact on people’s lives, whether that’s young people, families, businesses or residents. Our approach has been to combine robust enforcement with strong partnership working – tackling the behaviour directly but also offering support and opportunities to prevent further issues.
"We’re encouraged by the early results and will continue to keep up this momentum to ensure Uckfield remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone."
Anyone affected by antisocial behaviour is encouraged to report it online or by calling 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
