Pupils from Shinewater School entertain the residents of Mortain Place Eastbourne

Pupils from Shinewater Primary School brought festive cheer to Mortain Place Care Home in Eastbourne this week, as they delivered handwritten and plantable Christmas Cards to residents, in partnership with Barratt Homes.

The sustainable Christmas cards, donated by the housebuilder, are embedded with wildflower seeds and designed to be planted once finished with. 29 pupils visited the care home with handwritten cards as well as performing a heart-warming selection of traditional Christmas carols for the residents to enjoy.

This visit is part of Barratt Homes’ wider commitment to supporting the community around its developments, including the nearby Hawthorn Grove in Westham.

Rob Hobbs, Homes Services Advisor at Mortain Place Care Home, commented: “The residents loved the visit. The cards were such a thoughtful touch and the carol singing brought a wonderful sense of Christmas spirit into the home. We’re grateful to Shinewater Primary School and Barratt Homes for making this happen.”

Serena Boddy, School Development Lead and Teacher at Shinewater Primary School, commented: “Our students were so excited to take part in this project, not only did it allow them to spread kindness in the lead up to Christmas, but the plantable Christmas cards also aligned with our school’s values around sustainability and protecting the environment. Seeing the smiles on the residents’ faces made the experience memorable for all of us.”

Mark Vanson, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt Redrow Southern Counties, commented: “Bringing together different generations with initiatives like this is exactly what Christmas is all about. We’re proud to strengthen community relationships and the plantable Christmas cards were our way of engaging with the younger generation while giving residents of Mortain Place a meaningful gift to be enjoyed into the new year.”
