Residents are being encouraged to mark their diaries for Wednesday 6 May, when Hailsham Town Council will hold its Annual Town (Electors’) Meeting at the Hailsham Civic Community Hall.
The meeting will begin at 7.30pm and will be chaired by the Town Mayor and Chairman of the Council, Cllr Chris Bryant.
The Annual Town Meeting provides an important opportunity for local government electors to raise matters relating to the parish of Hailsham and to ask questions of their Town Council. In accordance with Schedule 12 of the Local Government Act 1972, electors may address any issue of public concern affecting the parish.
Further details about the format of the evening, including arrangements for a public information exhibition, will be announced in the coming weeks.
Corporate Services Manager Karen Giddings said the meeting offers a valuable opportunity both to reflect on progress and to look ahead:
“Over the past year, the Town Council has continued to deliver a range of projects and improvements to services for the benefit of residents. The Annual Town Meeting enables us to provide a clear update on the work undertaken and the community initiatives currently in progress.”
“Just as importantly, it gives residents the opportunity to share their views and help shape priorities for the year ahead. We would encourage members of the community to attend and take part in the discussion.”
Town Clerk John Harrison highlighted the importance of community involvement in local decision-making:
“The Annual Town Meeting is a key part of local democracy and ensures that residents have a direct voice in matters affecting the town. It provides an open forum where electors can ask questions, raise concerns and put forward constructive suggestions.”
“The Town Council remains committed to working collaboratively with residents to maintain and enhance Hailsham as a vibrant, welcoming and forward-looking community.”
Residents wishing to submit questions in advance are invited to write to John Harrison (Town Clerk), Inglenook, Market Street, Hailsham, BN27 2AE. The deadline for the submission of advance questions is Friday 1 May.
Members of the public are also welcome to attend on the evening and raise questions from the floor.
