Sussex Cricket had no answer for the County Championships in-form team, falling to a nine wicket defeat against top of the table Nottinghamshire, with Paul Farbrace’s side registering their first defeat since their return to Division 1, and drop one place into third in the table, with their next game seeing the team host Worcestershire in a fortnight.
In football, Lewes ended their season on a high with an entertaining 4-3 victory against Cray Wanderers, as academy prospect Christo Nano marked his first league appearance with a goal, to help ensure Craig Nelson ended his time at the club with a win, as The Rooks finish the season in 13th place.
Elsewhere, Crowborough Athletic scored in the 93rd minute to beat Loxwood 1-0 in their final regular season match, while The Crows play their first match in the playoffs at home against Petersfield Town tomorrow, as AFC Uckfield Town lost their last game of the season 2-0 against Godalming Town finishing in ninth.
In the Mid Sussex Leagues, Ridgewood showed they still have their goalscoring instincts, coming out on top against Godstone in an end to end 9-4 clash, as Buxted made it five games unbeaten after their 2-1 win against Seaford Town 2nd’s, while Maresfield Village and Plumpton Athletic drew 0-0.
Lastly in the men’s, league winning Newick finished their season being defeated 2-0 by runners up Scaynes Hill, as Hartfield drew 1-1 with Scaynes Hill Reserves, with the result meaning they are one game away from completing their unbeaten league winning season.
And finally In women’s football, Lewes closed out their season with a statement 7-0 victory at home against MK Dons, with Paula Howells grabbing a hattrick, as The Rooks finished sixth in the league.
