St Wilfrid's Hospice Starlight Stroll raises thousands for vital hospice care

Over 900 walkers took part in the walk last night.

The St Wilfrid's Hospice Starlight Stroll is an annual, twilight sponsored walk along the Eastbourne seafront that raises vital funds for local hospice care. The 2026 event took place yesterday on Saturday 12th September 2026, running between 4:00 pm and 11:00 pm, with over 900 walkers taking part.

Ashdown Radio director and breakfast show presenter, Ryan Millns was hosting the event and warming up the crowd before setting them off on either a 5 mile or 10 mile walk.

Event Details & Routes

  • Starting & Finishing Point: The walk commences and concludes at Princes Park, Eastbourne (BN22 7AE).
  • The Lantern Tradition: Both routes lead to the illuminated Italian Gardens at Holywell. Here, participants lay a specially decorated paper lantern to remember a loved one or reflect on the hospice's work.
  • Entry Perks: Registered walkers receive a Starlight Stroll T-shirt, a paper lantern to decorate, and a commemorative finisher's medal.

Fundraising & Impact

The event is a massive milestone for St Wilfrid's Hospice. Last year's walk raised a record-breaking £111,486 to support free, specialist end-of-life care across Eastbourne, Hailsham, Seaford, Uckfield, and Heathfield.

This year, corporate partners hosted a "Double Your Donation Day" on 2nd September to match community sponsorships.
