Sussex Police ranked top in the country for answering 999 calls for 12 consecutive months

Sussex Police has been ranked as the top performing force for answering 999 calls for 12 consecutive months.

National figures show the force answered over 98% of 999 calls within 10 seconds, outperforming every other force in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland between August 2025 and July 2026.  

This is the first time any police force has topped the table for a whole year.

Chief Constable Jo Shiner KPM said: "This is an outstanding achievement and I am so proud of all my officers and staff that have worked so hard to make this happen.

"Achieving the highest ranking in the country for 12 consecutive months shows the commitment of our teams to provide a fast and effective response for our communities so that when they need us the most, we are there to help them."

Sussex Police received 289,125 from August 2025 to July 2026, with an average answer time of three seconds. 

New contact technology has transformed call handling, improving how 999 and 101 calls are routed and managed in the Force Contact and Control Room.  

Advanced data analytics have helped to give a clear overview of demand, staffing, and available resources, allowing quicker and more effective deployment of officers and staff to where they are needed most.
