Tree-mendous response to Wealden competition

A competition inviting Wealden residents to send in photographs of trees has closed following an overwhelming response.

Wealden District Council organised the Appreciate a Tree competition to coincide with Appreciate a Tree Day earlier in the summer.

The winner was Stephen Francis whose photograph of trees along the Cuckoo Trail impressed the judge Councillor Pam Doodes, the council’s portfolio holder for Climate Change.

Councillor Doodes said, “Trees form the backbone of our local environment, support local wildlife and help store carbon. We held the competition to celebrate our appreciation for their impact on our lives and the planet and were hugely impressed by all of the entries.

“The stand out entry however was Mr Francis’s photograph of trees on the Cuckoo Trail. It has now taken pride of place in our council foyer in Vicarage Lane and I was also delighted to present the winner with a framed print of his photograph.”
