Uckfield man sentenced for coercive control and assaults on woman in East Sussex

An abuser who choked and assaulted a woman has been jailed.

Jamie Hall admitted coercive control of the victim in East Sussex.

The 42-year-old choked the woman known to him, and later broke into her flat.

He threatened self harm and left the victim in fear.

“I don’t want what happened to me to happen to any other woman,” she said.

At Lewes Crown Court on 13 August, Hall, of Pasture Place, Ridgewood, near Uckfield, was jailed for three years and two months.

He admitted coercive control, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and assault by beating.

The court also imposed a restraining order not to contact the victim, which lasts for ten years.

The court was told how the offences dated between 2024 and 2026.

Hall made threatening and abusive phone calls to the victim, claiming to know her new address and then breaking into her flat.

The victim described the impact of Hall’s drug and alcohol abuse, and said she has a constant fear about Hall knowing her whereabouts.

Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Beth Charles said: “Hall’s manipulative, threatening and violent behaviour continues to have a lasting impact on the victim.

“We take reports of domestic abuse and violence extremely seriously, and tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a top priority for Sussex Police.

“After the victim came forward to report her experience, we were determined to get justice, and Hall is now serving a custodial sentence.

“We continue to encourage victims to come forward and report their experiences to Sussex Police.”
