Tom Lightfoot has decided to step down due to a new job, family commitments, and a lengthy travel time of one and a half hours for each session, which he feels is unsustainable. We want to express our gratitude to Tom and his coaching staff for their dedication this season. Their hard work and commitment were especially valuable during a season marked by limited games and fluctuating schedules. We sincerely appreciate all their efforts. As we look toward the future, we are thrilled to announce an exciting new chapter for Uckfield Rugby Club. James Trevis will be joining us as the Head Coach for the 2024/2025 season. In this role, James will be responsible for overseeing all rugby activities across the club, providing invaluable guidance and support to coaches, players, and managers from every section. James comes to us with an exceptional track record from Brighton Blues, both as a player and a coach. During his playing career, James achieved remarkable success, including 5 promotions and 3 national cups, amassing over 280 caps, making him the highest capped player on record. His transition to coaching began over five years ago in New Zealand and has been marked by significant achievements. Under his guidance, his teams have secured another promotion and multiple varsity wins. His leadership at the University of Sussex and as a Sussex County coach has led numerous players to selections for England Unis, Sussex County teams, and even England Southeast. Additionally, in his role at Cardinal Newman as the Attack Coach and Head of School Rugby, James has been instrumental in achieving two national cup wins and nurturing young talent who have been selected for prestigious teams such as the Harlequins and Scotland U20s. James’s depth of experience and his unique ability to develop both young and senior players are what set him apart as a leader and coach. We are confident that his vision and expertise will lead Uckfield RFC to new heights in the coming seasons. Please join us in warmly welcoming James Trevis to our club. We look forward to the passion and excellence he will bring to our team. Thank you for your ongoing support. Let's finish this season strong and usher in an era of renewed ambition and success with James at the helm.
