The local sports review from Ashdown Radio
Lewes dug deep to register their first win in four by beating Hendon 1-0 at the Dripping Pan, with Danny Bassett once again scoring an all important goal, with his 57th minute strike leaving The Rooks in 13th.
Elsewhere, Crowborough Athletic’s tie away against top of the league Hassocks was one of our six local games that failed to beat the elements, while Jarvis Brook put up a commanding 7-0 win against Bosham.
In the Mid Sussex Leagues, Nutley claimed a solid point in their 1-1 draw with third in the league Montpellier Villa 2nd’s, while Newick dropped more points in their title fight, losing 3-1 against Cuckfield Town 2nd’s, staying top of the league by a point, but having played one more game than their nearest challengers Scaynes Hill.
Lastly in the men’s, Hartfield made it ten games unbeaten, and moved one step closer to their title as they narrowly beat Maresfield Village 2nd’s 3-2, as they stay two points clear, but with at least three games in hand on the chasing pack.
Now in women’s football, Lewes claimed a hard earned point in their 1-1 draw with Oxford United, with Sarah Harvey scoring her first goal for The Rooks to level the proceedings in the 76th minute.
And finally now in women’s rugby, Heathfield & Waldron narrowly lost their top two clash with Dartford Valley 12-10, and now drop into second, while Uckfield fell to a 15-10 defeat against East Grinstead.
