In football, AFC Uckfield Town’s tough start to the season went from bad to worse as they suffered a heavy 9-0 defeat against Reigate Priory, while Jarvis Brook were held to a 1-1 draw with Oakwood that keeps them second in the standings, as Rotherfield fell to a 3-0 loss versus Hollington United.
Elsewhere, Buxted exited the Somerville Cup after a 6-1 defeat by Reigate Priory U23’s, as Barcombe bounced back from a heavy defeat on the opening weekend by dispatching Willingdon Athletic 4-1, with Ridgewood maintaining their hot streak in front of goal after comfortably beating the Cuckfield Rangers 2nd’s 6-1.
Meanwhile, Newick saw their tie with Polegate Town 2nd’s postponed, as Nutley defeated Cuckfield Town Development 3-1, with Hartfield earning a 3-0 victory over Ditchling.
Lastly in men’s football, Maresfield Village fixture against Ansty FC 2nd’s also failed to beat the elements, as Plumpton Athletic progressed into the second round of the Malins Cup, after defeating Forest Row U23s 4-0.
Looking to women’s football now, with Lewes losing for the first time this season, falling to a 1-0 loss against Hashtag United, with the Rooks conceding early in the first half, and were unable to apply the finishing touches in front of goal to rescue a point, as the team now drops down to fourth in the standings.
Finally in rugby, where Heathfield & Waldron made it two wins from two as they beat Park House 39-27 to find themselves second in the league, while Crowborough suffered a heavy 48-5 loss against Sevenoaks 2nd’s.
