Cat lovers invited to Raystede's "All About Cats Day"

With thousands of households across Sussex sharing their homes with cats and growing pressures on pet owners amid rising living costs, Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare is inviting the local cat-loving community to its upcoming All About Cats Day on Saturday 7 March 2026.

Recent research conducted by Raystede has highlighted the scale of feline companionship locally, with an estimated one in four pet-owning households in Sussex owning at least one cat, representing tens of thousands of cats across the county. The research also highlights increasing financial pressures affecting pet owners, with cost-of-living challenges impacting access to veterinary care and preventative treatments.

In response to these growing needs, Raystede’s free, family-friendly event will provide expert advice, practical support and guidance to help both cat owners and potential cat owners.

The event will give visitors exclusive access to expert advice from Raystede’s experienced animal welfare and education teams. From decoding feline behaviour to creating enriching home environments, those attending will gain practical, take-home guidance to help their cats live happier, healthier lives.

What to expect on the day:

  • Expert talks - Cat owners can get answers to some common cat conundrums whilst potential cat owners can find out all about adoption.
  • Creating a purr-fect home – Discover what your house needs to make it the purr-fect home for a feline friend.
  • Golden oldies care tips - Learn how best to support the health and happiness of senior cats.
  • Thinking of getting a cat? – Find out about adopting or fostering a cat and pick up tips to avoid the potential pitfalls of buying a cat online.

  • Cat merchandise and shopping - Explore a range of feline-themed goodies and gifts in Raystede’s on-site shops.
  • Donate your unwanted cat goods - Bring along toys or treats your cat never uses and donate them to help animals currently in Raystede’s care.

Raystede’s research also found that demand for animal welfare services has risen in recent years, reflecting wider economic pressures and changes in pet ownership patterns. Events like All About Cats Day aim to provide preventative education helping owners address common issues early and make informed decisions about responsible cat ownership.

Gemma Price, Head of Prevention and Education at Raystede said "Cats bring so much joy to people’s lives, but understanding their needs is key to ensuring they thrive.

Cats are one of the most popular companion animals in Sussex, but ownership comes with responsibilities. Through educational days like All About Cats, we hope to share practical advice and support to empower owners and strengthen feline welfare across our community.”
