Councillor Gareth Owen-Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat), and lead councillor for Waste and Customer Services, said, “Thanks to all of the efforts of its’ residents, Wealden has achieved an amazing recycling rate of over 49% in the last year. Christmas is a time when more waste is produced, much of which can be recycled using your kerbside collection service. I would like to ask our residents to please keep up the good work and recycle as much as possible this Christmas.”
Here are some recycling tips for the festive season.
Electricals & batteries - Broken and unwanted small electrical items and household batteries can be put in separate carrier bags on top of your rubbish bin or recycling bin for collection. Please do not put batteries inside your bins as these can cause fires both in the collection vehicle and at the Recycling Facility.
Wrapping paper & cards – all of your festive wrapping paper and cards (except foil/glitter) can be placed in the recycling bin.
Christmas trees - ‘Real' Christmas trees can be composted. If you have a garden waste subscription you can chop your real tree up and place it in your brown bin. Alternatively, it can be taken to your local Household waste recycling site for recycling.
Extra recycling - Extra recycling can be placed in white or clear bags (no black sacks) next to the recycling bin for collection (except for glass which should be placed directly in the recycling bin).
Clean, dry and loose - Please make sure all your recycling is washed, squashed, dry and put loose into your recycling bin.
If you do need to visit a Household Waste Recycling Site (local ‘tips’) over the holidays, please check https://new.eastsussex.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling/household-waste-recycling-sites for opening times.
Cardboard - Remember to flatten all cardboard boxes so they don't take up unnecessary space in your recycling bin and if you need to leave them at the side of the bin, please ensure they are folded/cut to a size that would fit inside your bin.

The Waste Team at Wealden would like to wish all residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
