Crowborough's Matt Weston WINS GOLD at the 2026 Winter Olympics

Matt Weston won Team GB's first gold medal of the 2026 Winter Olympics on Friday, 13 February 2026, in the men's skeleton.

His victory ended a seven-day wait for a British medal at the Milano Cortina Games. Weston, the reigning world and European champion, dominated the competition at the Cortina Sliding Centre by setting track records in all four of his runs

  • Winning Time: 3:43.33 (cumulative over four heats).
  • Margin of Victory: 0.88 seconds ahead of silver medallist Axel Jungk of Germany.
  • Historical Significance: Weston is the first British man to win an individual gold medal at a Winter Olympics since figure skater Robin Cousins in 1980. He is also the first British man to ever win Olympic gold in the skeleton.
