Fearless St Wilfrid’s fundraisers walk on hot coals

A downpour of hail didn’t dampen the spirits of more than 60 St Wilfrid’s supporters who took part in a Fire Walk fundraiser last Saturday (28th March).

Nearly £20,000 has already been raised from the event, with money still coming in.

Two fire lanes measuring three metres long were set up outside the hospice building in Broadwater Way, Eastbourne. Brave participants aged between 18 to 83 walked barefoot across the coals, which were burning at a temperature of 200 to 300 degrees Celsius.

The event was run by Time4Change and all walkers listened to a motivational seminar from their expert trainers before taking on the challenge.

Jemma Campbell, Events Fundraiser, said: “Fire Walk is always an amazing evening, and really tests the bravery of our supporters. We’re very grateful to everyone who walked across a bed of red-hot embers to raise much-needed funds for St Wilfrid’s. Thank you also to Stix Drummers for helping create a magical atmosphere and Taylor Engley Estate Agents for sponsoring the event.”

St Wilfrid’s Hospice provides high-quality care and support for people across Eastbourne, Seaford, Hailsham, Uckfield, Heathfield (and all points between) with life-limiting illnesses.
