National Context

The banking group—which includes Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland—is reducing its physical footprint due to a significant shift toward digital banking, with over 21 million customers now primarily using their mobile apps.

  • Remaining Network: Once all planned closures are completed by March 2027, the group expects to maintain approximately 610 branches.
  • Staff Impact: Employees at affected branches will be offered alternative roles within the company.
  • Access to Cash: To mitigate the loss of local branches, the LINK Cash Access UK network has recommended the creation of new banking hubs in some affected areas to ensure continued access to basic banking services.
