In local football, Crowborough Athletics clash with Peacehaven & Telscombe was one of a number of games called off thanks to the cold weather, as was Jarvis Brooks tie against Bosham, while it was a tale of two halves for AFC Uckfield Town, eventually losing 6-1 to league leaders Newhaven, after a vastly improved first half performance which saw them go into the break level.
In the Mid Sussex Leagues, Rotherfield’s clash with Polegate Town as well as Barcombe’s tie away to Crawley AFC also failed to beat the elements, while Ridgewood were rewarded for getting their game underway with 4-0 win over Peacehaven & Telscombe 2nd’s in the Mowatt Cup.
Elsewhere, Newick & Plumpton Athletic both saw their cup fixtures called off, with a similar fate in the league for Buxted and Hartfield, while Nutley’s efforts against a strong Eastbourne Athletic side came without reward, falling to a 3-2 defeat, while Maresfield Village narrowly lost 1-0 against league leaders and still unbeaten Athletico Burgess Hill.
While in the women’s football, and it was heartbreak for Lewes, with The Rooks conceding a 94th minute own goal to draw 1-1 against midtable Durham, moving to within three points of safety, as a goal from Jenny Drury ensured AFC Uckfield Town came away with all three points by beating Ringmer away from home 1-0.
