Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare is calling on supporters, walkers, animal lovers, fitness first timers and seasoned striders alike to take on a powerful mission this Spring: walk 50 miles throughout May to help transform the lives of animals in need.
Choose to take part in memory of someone special or a beloved pet, team up with friends, colleagues or classmates, no matter why you walk, every mile achieved will make a real difference to the animals in Raystede’s care.
Joining #TeamRaystede and taking part in this year’s challenge will be Noreen Rooney who has taken part in 50 Miles in May for the past two years, walking with her two Raystede rescue dogs, Ted and Pip.
Noreen said: “I am passionate about raising funds for Raystede, a charity I respect and admire. Walking is such a fun, relaxing way to do this, there’s no special equipment needed, just a comfortable pair of walking shoes and off you go!
“Last year, I proudly wore my Raystede blue t shirt as I walked, while my two dogs wore blue ribbons and even had little blue poo bags attached to their harnesses - they looked so cute!”
It’s free to sign up for the 50 Miles in May challenge and those taking part will receive a #TeamRaystede t-shirt when they start fundraising. Raise £150 and participants will get an animal hero medal and certificate, go onto raise £300 and receive an exclusive Raystede tote bag.
Noreen continues: “Raystede does incredible work caring for animals, large and small, who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in need of a new home or rehabilitation. It’s therefore incredibly rewarding to know that something as simple as walking can have such a meaningful impact.”
How fundraising makes a difference
Raystede is not government-funded so donations and fundraising are vital to the work of the charity. The charity has to raise £6,500 every day to pay for all the animal care costs so every donation, big or small, makes a huge difference.
- £60 could help Raystede care for a cat for a day.
- £120 could cover the costs of settling in a new dog arriving at Raystede.
- £200 could help Raystede look after a rabbit for a month.
