New community cinema set for Heathfield

The Vault Community Cinema is indeed opening its temporary home at the Heathfield Community Centre on Sheepsetting Lane. The first free test screening is scheduled for early 2026

Organiser Mark Alger is planning a free test screening for early 2026, with plans for at least four to six screenings monthly, featuring new releases, family films, and live theatre screenings. Profits from these screenings will go towards finding a permanent location in Heathfield

This statement reflects the positive reception of the Heathfield Cinema Project, an initiative aimed at revitalizing the local high street and providing social opportunities for older residents.

The project has sparked community interest in its potential to combat social isolation, with locals suggesting further ideas to support senior citizens:

  • Daytime Screenings for Seniors: Residents have proposed showing classic daytime movies specifically for locals in their 70s and 80s to provide a safe, social daytime activity.
  • Combatting Loneliness: Supporters highlight that such a venue would be "brilliant" for residents in Heathfield who live alone and experience loneliness, offering them a place to connect with others.
