Over the weekend, Sussex Police conducted a targeted operation in Eastbourne to address growing community concerns regarding the dangerous and anti-social use of bikes and e-scooters.
Operation Details
The crackdown focused on delivery riders following multiple reports of excessive speed and unsafe riding behaviours in the town. Local policing teams carried out extensive activity, including:
- Seizures & Arrests: One illegal bike was seized during the operation, and one individual was arrested for drink driving.
- Enforcement Activity: Officers performed a high volume of stop checks. Many riders and drivers received "strong words of advice" and formal warnings regarding their responsible riding and general road safety.
- Objectives: The operation was specifically designed to tackle illegal e-scooters, poor driving standards, and the anti-social behavior often associated with high-speed delivery riding.
Future Action
Sussex Police have indicated that similar proactive stops and enforcement actions will continue in the coming months. Residents are encouraged to continue reporting incidents of anti-social riding via the Sussex Police online reporting tool or by calling 101 to help officers target priority areas.
