St Wilfrid’s Hospice supporter wins in Local Hospice Lottery

A former home carer has scooped £2,000 in the Local Hospice Lottery in support of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Madalaine Francis from Westham has played the lottery for several years after visiting the hospice café with a friend. “They were signing people up for the Local Hospice Lottery to support St Wilfrid’s, so I thought I’d try it, never expecting to win. The way I looked at it, I knew the money would be useful for the hospice,” Madalaine said.

“I was very surprised when a lady phoned recently to tell me I’d won, because I don't normally win anything. And to win £2,000 puts a smile on your face! I don't know what I’m going to do with it yet, I’ll pop it in the bank and have a little think about it,” Madalaine added.

“I’d encourage other people to play the Local Hospice Lottery in support of St Wilfrid’s because I took a chance, and it worked for me. So, if it's worked for me, it can work for others!”

Every week there are more than 200 cash prizes, including a guaranteed £2,000 and a rollover that can reach £25,000.

Melanie Thompson, Supporter Development Database Officer at St Wilfrid’s Hospice, said: “It’s always exciting when one of our players wins so we were delighted to meet Madalaine and her husband Cliff to present her cheque.

“More than 10,400 players win a prize every year with the Local Hospice Lottery and as a benefitting hospice, we receive a regular and reliable income from every draw,” Melanie added.
