Buxted Park Champions !
Congratulations go to Buxted Park, who became champions of their division in a dramatic finish to the season. Buxted Park lost their final game at Crawley Eagles by 71 runs on Saturday and finished on exactly the same number of points as their closest rivals Crowhurst Park. However, Buxted Park claimed top spot by winning the head-to-head and they will be playing next year in the second tier of Sussex cricket for the first time.
Meanwhile, Crowborough’s first team had a crushing win over Uckfield Anderida, who were skittled out for 87 to lose by 232 runs.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Newick, Barcombe, Plumpton and East Chiltington and Fletching.
In the weekend’s local football, there were good wins for AFC Uckfield Town and Crowborough Athletic. Uckfield beat Loxwood four-three in an entertaining clash at the Oaks, while Crowborough were three-one winners at Alfold. Also in the Southern Combination League, Jarvis Brook lost their unbeaten record with a one-nil defeat at Rustington.
In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood maintained their 100% record with a three-two victory at Buxted. Uckfield United drew their opening match at Wivelsfield Green two-all. Rotherfield beat Lindfield three-nil. And there were also wins for Nutley, Hartfield and Maresfield, who won five-nil at Fairfield.
Lewes came back from two-nil down to draw two-all and earn a replay against Sheppey in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.
And finally, Brighton and Hove Albion moved up to fourth place in the Premier League after an emphatic five-two defeat over bottom club Leicester at the Amex Stadium yesterday.
