A new weekly food waste collection service will be introduced for all Eastbourne households from spring 2026, as part of efforts to boost recycling and cut carbon emissions.
The move follows new government rules requiring councils to run weekly food waste collections from next year.
Eastbourne Borough Council says the service will be free to use, with food waste sent to a composting facility rather than incineration.
The collections will also be carried out by a new ultra-low emission electric vehicle fleet, supporting the town’s net zero carbon goals.
Each household will receive two new caddies — one for indoor use and one for outdoor collection — along with a free roll of compostable liners to help make the change as easy as possible.
Councillor Colin Swansborough, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, Staff, Performance and Enterprise, said:
“This new service will bring real environmental benefits by cutting waste and emissions.
"We’ll be running a full information campaign before launch to make sure residents know exactly how to take part.”
