East Sussex under a weather warning

A Yellow Weather Warning for heavy rain is in effect for East Sussex as Storm Chandra moves across the UK. The Met Office warns that heavy rain falling on saturated ground is likely to cause flooding and travel disruption.

Warning Details

• Active Period: From midnight tonight (Monday, Jan 26) until 12:00 PM Tuesday, Jan 27, 2026.
• Expected Rainfall: Widely 15–25 mm, with some areas potentially seeing 30–40 mm, and up to 50 mm over higher ground.
• Impacted Areas: The entire south coast, including Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton, and surrounding East Sussex districts. 

Expected Impacts

• Travel Disruption: Spray and flooding on roads will likely lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
• Public Transport: Delays and potential cancellations for train and bus services are expected.
• Flooding: Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely. Three specific flood alerts have been activated by the Environment Agency for Sussex.
• Infrastructure: Possible power cuts and interruptions to other services.
