The incident occurred at approximately 5:02 pm on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, amidst an extended red heat-health alert affecting southern England. While East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews found no active fire upon arrival, the blast caused damage to a five-square-metre outside area.

- Ventilation: Place cylinders in a well-ventilated, outdoor area.
- Separation: Keep bottles far away from building entry and exit points.
- Ignition: Ensure storage is clear of any heat or potential ignition sources.
- Vehicles: Never leave gas cylinders inside a closed car or boot where temperatures can rapidly double.
