A national recruitment campaign Make a Difference, Work for Your Local Council has been launched, promoting careers in local government and highlighting how rewarding working in the sector can be.
The campaign, funded by UK Government, will shine a spotlight on the brilliant opportunities to grow your career in local government during January and February 2026.
Working in local government means:
- Making a positive impact on real people's lives in your community
- Growing your career with training and development opportunities
- Having flexible, inclusive working practices
- Seeing a huge variety of jobs, with over 800 different jobs in a council.
The Make a Difference, Work for Your Local Council campaign delivers the transformative impact of a career in local government – it gives people the power to change their life in a way that can also have an impact on communities.
With hundreds of jobs in varying roles across the country, there are roles to suit all levels of experience, skills, and ambitions.
Councillor Greg Collins, Alliance for Wealden (Green Party) and lead councillor for Finance, HR and Customer Services, said, “At Wealden, we offer a wide range of opportunities, from training roles like apprenticeships and graduate roles to permanent positions across many different departments, so there’s something for everyone. Local government isn’t always the first-place people think of when choosing a career, but it should be. Working for a local authority, albeit a very long time ago, was a formative and foundational experience in my own career. The work is impactful, varied and full of opportunity, with plenty of scope to grow and develop.”
