By his own admission, personal trainer Tyler Goldsmith has never been good at running. But he does like a challenge, so for one month he attempted to run 10km every day to raise money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice (Eastbourne). Not only did he succeed, but he raised almost £1,500.
Tyler took on the challenge to say thank you for the care that his grandma, godmother and uncle received from St Wilfrid’s. “Hospices need money to keep going and I wanted to do something to help,” Tyler said. “I’ve never been good at running and wanted to test myself, so decided to run 10km every day of August. I set a target of raising £500 – which I reached before the fundraiser even began.”
Unfortunately for Tyler, his daily runs coincided with the hottest month of the year. “Running every day was definitely a challenge, but I received a lot of support from friends and family and they helped me raise £1,435. People donated who I haven’t spoken to in years, and even some that I’ve never met,” he added.
St Wilfrid’s Hospice’s Fundraising Assistant, Megan Upton, said: “We were so impressed with Tyler’s challenge, especially when he did it in the middle of a heat wave. I was delighted to meet him to receive the money. Every penny raised will go towards helping to deliver hospice care to our local community.”
St Wilfrid’s Hospice provides high-quality care and support for people across Eastbourne, Seaford, Hailsham, Uckfield, Heathfield (and all points between) with life-limiting illnesses.
